Vicky here – Vocal Coach. I specialize in confidence building with the singing and speaking voice. I teach ‘Complete Vocal Technique’ – which I consider the best and most developed technique in Europe. And in this article i’m going to answer the question – ‘Why Use A Vocal Coach?’
No 1 – Because a Vocal Coach will give you feedback
When we sing, we don’t always hear what we sing. Also our ear isn’t always trained to pick up what we are singing and the details. A vocal coach will be able to feed back to you exactly what you’re doing. This can give you more information to make improvement and choices about your voice. For example – a lot of my singers don’t hear when they are adding vibrato. A singer should have control of their vibrato in order to make it a choice for means of expression.
No 2 – Because a Vocal Coach has a different perspective
As a singer we listen to our ‘inner hearing’ – this means we hear certain frequencies resonating through the bones in our body. A vocal coach hears ‘outer hearing’ – this is the perspective the audience has. So you can understand why its important to get perspective from this ‘outer hearing’
No 3 – Confidence building
A good vocal coach will be able to tell you when your technique is healthy, and will be able to correct your technique if it’s hurting you, causing strain or making you feel hoarse. A good vocal coach will also be able to help you centre your voice (more on this later) – as when the voice is centered then singing feels free and easy. A coach will also help you gain accurate pitch through training. When we trust we are on pitch with a free an easy sound we can trust in our voice and this is turn builds our confidence. Here at FreeYourVoiceHub I will also tell you how the voice works so that you realize it’s not your fault when something goes wrong with the voice, but that actually its just the way the anatomy works. This also builds confidence when we realize it’s something we can correct. A good coach will also give plenty of praise when the technique is healthy.
No 4 – For new technique/To improve
For a long time i thought that we were just born with a voice and that the voice should just come out of emotional expression. This is of course true, but i didn’t realize that i could develop my voice and change it if i wanted to. A good vocal coach knows exactly how the voice works and which parts we are able to change and develop. This can be truly enlightening when we find new parts of our voice we didn’t know we had. And this gives us more ways to express ourselves. For example we can change mode, sound colour, add effects and much more!
No 5 – A good coach will give you options
A good coach will not tell you to sing in a particular way, unless for example you’re looking to train a particular sound. For example – classical singing is very specific if you wish to train that sound. A good vocal coach will give you options and guide you towards your own goals. For example – I had a singing teacher that told me I must not sing with nasality. This is highly confusing as some singers do sing with nasality and it sounds great. Rihanna for example. So I will give you all the options and let you choose for yourself. This is much more empowering and gives the singer more confidence to find their own voice.
