I’m so glad you’re here and that you’re taking the time to read my story. FreeYourVoiceHub is a place for all singers and public speakers to come together and find their voice. My name is Vicky, and I’d love to share my journey with you, as well as connect on a personal level. I hope by the end of this, you’ll have a better understanding of who I am, how I became a singer, and how I found my passion for vocal coaching.

My Love for Singing

From a young age, I’ve always loved to sing! It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when I started, but my best friend Penny always reminds me of the time I sang Elvis’s Blue Suede Shoes on a school bench in knee-high socks when I was just 7 years old.

Now, I’m going to be really honest with you—something that’s not always easy—but I want you to understand why I became a singer and vocal coach. It all started when I was 6 years old, and my dad left our family, leaving my mum heartbroken. She had to raise three children on her own without any financial support. It took me until my 30s to realize the emotional impact this had on me. Looking back, I see how singing became my therapy—it helped me process my emotions during difficult times. I was lucky to be someone who could externalize my feelings through music.

Singing has always been a way for me to express myself, and today, I use my experiences to help others find the freedom of externalizing their own emotions through their voices.

The Path to Becoming a Vocal Coach

In my late teens, I decided to study Pop Music—I just wasn’t interested in anything else! Despite the well-meaning advice that “That’s not a real career,” my rebellious nature meant I wasn’t going to listen to anyone telling me what to do!

To support myself through music college, I worked with children and young people, which turned out to be a pivotal part of my journey. It gave me deep insight into the individuality of every person and helped shape the way I teach today. I learned how essential it is to approach each student with a unique perspective. Every singer has their own learning style, and I take the time to understand and adapt to their needs.

After studying Pop Music, I ventured into Creative Music Technology, which gave me a deep understanding of how to record and produce the voice. This knowledge has influenced my own songwriting and performance techniques, and I often record my students’ voices to analyze their progress, build confidence, and help them grow as singers.

My Music Career

After university, I made the move to London, where I worked in an Electro Pop band with my university friends. This is where I developed my stage presence and learned how to overcome my personal performance anxieties. We toured the UK, supporting bands like The Mystery Jets, Katy B, and many more. At one point, we even came close to securing a record deal and found ourselves in a meeting with Robbie Williams’ lawyer!

However, in my late 20s, I moved back to Cambridge after a period of illness, craving the calm of the countryside. It wasn’t long before I was offered a job at CSVPA (Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts), where I worked as a vocal coach for ten years. This opportunity allowed me to grow as a teacher, develop my own methods, and work with students from around the world.

A Personal Turning Point

After several years at CSVPA, life threw me a curveball: I went through a difficult breakup and found myself a single mother. It was a tough and unexpected chapter in my life, but it ultimately became a turning point. I gathered my strength, went through therapy to heal, and focused on my son and my passion for music. The inner strength I gained through therapy transformed me not just personally but as a teacher as well. I learned to find new ways to incorporate music and singing into my life, no matter what challenges came my way.

Today, I can confidently say I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in my life. That doesn’t mean I don’t face challenges—it just means I now have the tools and resilience to handle them. And my journey continues…

Professional Achievements

I’m proud to say that my music is now released on major record labels, and my tracks have been featured on TV shows and adverts, including Love Island, Made in Chelsea, Top Gear, Big Brother, and The X Factor! These milestones are a testament to how far I’ve come, and I’m deeply proud of the work I’ve done.

To continue expanding my knowledge of vocal technique, I’ve completed a 3-year diploma in Vocal Technique in Copenhagen. This has allowed me to stay up to date with the latest methods and scientific advancements in vocal pedagogy. Studying with fellow students from across Europe has been an incredibly enriching experience, and I hold my time in Copenhagen very close to my heart.
